Be still and know that I am God.

Psalm 46:10

Hi friend,

Years ago, Rinne and I produced a two-and-a-half-day conference in Bremen, Germany. During one of the sessions, I sat down at the piano and sang the beloved hymn, Be Still, My Soul, to a stadium full of weary leaders and pastors—hearts like us—aching for a holy hush and longing for God to meet each of them in their own place of need.

Three weeks ago this same hymn suddenly came to mind for both of us. And as Heidi takes us on her morning sniffamin walks, I've been singing this to us, turning our strolls into a portable sanctuary—easing the weight of our challenges.

Every morning It feels like a divinely timed reminder that no matter the chaos within us or around our lives, we are held, known and watched over by God—even when it doesn't feel that way.

As you listen, may this become a place of refuge for you—to release your burdens into God's Hands—and settle into the deep peace of His Presence.

be still my soul

the Lord is on thy side

bear patiently

the cross of grief

of pain

leave to thy God

to order and provide

in every change

He faithful will remain

be still my soul

thy best thy heavenly friend

through thorny ways

leads to a joyful end

be still my soul

thy God doth undertake

to guide the future

as He has the past

thy hope thy confidence

let nothing shake

all now mysterious

shall be bright at last

be still my soul

the waves and winds

still know

His voice who ruled them

while He dwelt below

be still my soul

the hour is hastening on

when we shall be forever

with the Lord

when disappointment

grief and fear

are gone

sorrow forgot

love's purest joys restored

be still my soul

when change and tears

are past

all safe and blessed

we shall meet at last

be still my soul

be still my soul

Peace be with you dear one...

gregrinne

Notes:

Be Still, My Soul was written by 18th-century German hymn writer Katharina Amalia Dorothea von Schlegel. Originally in German, it was translated into English by Jane Laurie Borthwick in the 19th century. The hymn is commonly set to Jean Sibelius' Finlandia, a pairing established in 1899.

Dear sweet friends! As you know my lovely mom passed away last month at 94 - we spoke all the time & I miss her dearly. This song brings so much joy & comfort to my weary soul, thank you, thank you! The beautiful words, Greg, your calming voice, accapella & then with the simple piano was so uplifting! Corinne, were you playing? I could see my mom singing it in heaven too! Much love to you both!

Hi Patti! We've been holding you in our hearts as you're missing your dear mom. I (Corinne) had a similar friendship with my momma and not being able to talk with her is so hard. We're thanking Jesus for bringing joy & comfort & calm to your soul. And we're so moved by the thought of your mom singing Be Still, My Soul, in heaven....Sending much love to you too!

Greg, you have no idea how blessed we feel this morning listening to you sing. It took us back to wonderful worship in the Lakeside auditorium. Blessings to you and Corrine.

Peace be with you, Peace be with us!

Thank you so much, dear Corinne, dear Greg, I worked several times as a freelancer for Willow Creek Gernany and I remenber well the time in Bremen. It was my favour and pleasure to drive you to a church for rehearsal. We have to follow another car but we lost the connection and I didn‘t know the way….but Jesus knew. 😅 we arrived! I still listen to your songs in my car (Give me Jesus, Peacemaker, Leave a light on, there are so many I love) and sing them loudly on my bike. I pray for you, stay blessed.

Hi Kevin, thank you so much for your encouraging words and letting us know the link isn't working. And thank you too for your interest in reading a bit about what's going on behind the scenes in our life. The link should be working now. Unfortunately I can't seem to put in the comment section here. But if you don't mind going back to the bottom of today's post you'll find it there. Grateful for you!
